It is peacefully situated near Nijo castle and absolutely stunning in every way. The staff are friendly and attentive, and the rooms are perfect in absolutely every way. The mattress is probably the most comfortable I have slept on in any hotel. I noticed that the keys which allow you entrance to the elevator and onto your floor upon scanning in the elevator are extremely well thought out. Our party had English and Japanese, but another we shared the elevator with spoke Arabic. The elevator, upon scanning the keys gave the usual instructions and guidance in each language. Never have I seen that before. All the amenities were amazing and the drinks supplied in the room were delicious. I cannot praise this hotel and the staff enough. Breakfast was also delicious and a really peaceful atmosphere. I'm sure I've forgotten an area to praise but myself and the family have agreed this is our favorite hotel and we hope we will be able to come back again another time.

The rooms are amazing and the amenities provided are top notch. Each day they stock your coffee, water, juice and tea. I for one love coffee and the drip coffee bags tasted amazing. I did not have the included breakfast here because the price is rather expensive for a breakfast, but I'm sure the food is great if it is anything like the evening waffles and whiskey service they offer. Location is okay being near the castle, but if you are taking public transit, note the nearest subway station is about a 20 minute walk. But Uber/taxi prices are not bad from Kyoto Station around 2000 yen. I would definitely stay here again. The staff are all incredible and the hotel is very be clean and comfortable.

I loved returning to this hotel each day. Immediately, you have a lavender/rosemary? scent when walking in. The hotel is bright, ambient, and comforting. Upon check in we were offered a cup of tea and our luggage was waiting for us as we utilised the luggage transfer option offered in Japan. We also had the breakfast option and we took advantage of it every morning! They offered both a Japanese breakfast, and more American style breakfast which was so much appreciated. They also offered, fresh greens, yogurt, and fresh fruit as well. In the room there was a nice storage area to keep your shoes, jackets, dresses, day bags and we made use of it all every day. The room was cleaned every day and that service was very much appreciated although I didn't appreciate being told by the cleaners at 10:15AM I had a half hour to get out of the room for them to provide their cleaning services, as I had been suffering a migraine that morning and so moving about speedily was not really a priority! I was under the impression the signs for cleaning had to be out on the door by noon in order for cleaning services, so I was a bit confused why I had a half hour time limit to leave for them to clean the room at 10:15am, I understand they are trying to do their jobs though. Other than that, the service was impeccable and very helpful counter staff who would call us a taxi whenever we needed it, assisted with restaurant reservations, and also they assisted with the luggage transfer back to Tokyo!

The interior design of the hotel looks luxury and very cosy. Don't expect any view from the window but the ambient light and the decorations in your room are very satisfying. There is everything you need in your room and it is also quite spacious for japanese standards. Super comfy bed, big TV, separate toilet, spacious shower room. Amazing value for the price.

Everything about this hotel was incredible! The staff were all so welcoming, we got there very early as we traveled from Tokyo and they allowed us to store our luggage until the afternoon. Our room was so comfortable, spacious, and the bathroom/shower room was immaculate. Perfect comfy bed, lighting, amenities, just loved every single thing. There was complimentary water and fresh coffee available everyday too. The optional breakfast buffet was the best food selection EVER. Highly recommend!

We had a fantastic stay at the newly opened Hyatt Place Kyoto. 1. Perfect Location – The hotel is in a quiet area with a supermarket and convenience store right next door. Plus, there’s a subway station nearby, making it super easy to get around. 2. Comfortable & Thoughtful Design – The room was compact but well-designed. The lobby has a Nespresso machine, there’s a laundry room, and even a microwave available. 3. Tasty Breakfast – has everything you need, and the food was good. What made our stay extra special was the amazing staff—so friendly and helpful! They gave us great recommendations for local restaurants. A special thanks to Mr. Park and IMATA for their kindness and attention to detail. For the price, this hotel is unbeatable. We’ll definitely stay here again next time

Our stay was much better than we expected. We anticipated just eggs and bacon for breakfast, similar to the usual offerings at U.S. Hyatt Place hotels, but it turned out to be a full breakfast buffet featuring both Western and Japanese cuisine. The room was very quiet and clean, and the maid ensured our room was spotless. My family also appreciated having a microwave available in the lobby. The subway station is conveniently located right below the hotel, with the entrance just outside the hotel entrance. I have stayed at the Hyatt Regency Kyoto several times, but this is my first time at Hyatt Place Kyoto. While the Regency is an excellent hotel, I found that Hyatt Place Kyoto met all of my family's needs. The biggest advantages for us were the convenient subway access, as the Regency only provides taxi and bus services. The breakfast was great, and having a microwave to heat up meals was an added bonus. We also preferred the bathrooms at Hyatt Place Kyoto, as they offer more privacy compared to those at the Regency. Thank you for the excellent service from all staffs.

The hotel could not be more convenient even if it tried. 1. Location - Dozens of bars and restaurants within a 5 minute walk, at least 3 convenience stores, 2 coin laundries a Mcdonalds etc. The metro station is quite literally just outside the entrance to the hotel and is in fact connected to it. The palace and botanical gardens are a 15 minute walk away, the Nishiki market is about 20 minutes. 2. Facilities - Small but functional gym, coin laundry within the premises, lobby with comfortable seating, free nespresso coffee and a microwave for guests to use. The hotel also allowed guests to use the lobby seats to consume food/drinks purchased from outside. Rooms, though small were smartly built, were comfortable and absolutely quiet. 3. Staff - Pleasant and helpful. Whatever requests we made were promptly attended to. They also arranged for transfer of our luggage to the next hotel. We just had to handover the bag and fill up some details on an online form. The rest was taken care of by the staff. Process took two minutes.

It was easy to access directly from Subway Exit #6. If you are carrying luggage I suggest using exit #5 where the elevator is located. You only have to cross the street and go a little down the block to reach the hotel. It is a very nice setting with friendly and accommodating staff. Very clean and well stocked. Laundry facilities are available and well used so plan your laundry so you can catch an empty machine. 😂 Breakfast is a buffet and has several options but it would be nice to see some variety with changes during the week on some of the main options. Additionally, it would be nice if the restaurant offered some options other than breakfast only. For our needs/sightseeing adventures it was the perfect location for access to transportation. Walking distance to two amazing sights but also the access to the subway and major bus routes a block or so away. We would happily rebook this hotel for future stays!

The (two person) room was so spacious with a tv, sofa, table, large desk, and very comfortable beds. There was even a bench just by the door to put your shoes on and/or leave your stuff. Everything was very spacious, actually, from the lobby/art gallery to the bar/restaurant with lots of tables where you can just hang out whenever. There's a convenient laundromat, vending machines, and ice machine right by the elevators. The breakfast was very nice with lots of options and sandwiches of the day. The staff were super cute and friendly.

I loved my stay at Hotel Anteroom Kyoto. It’s a small but beautifully designed hotel: every detail feels carefully thought out. The staff were incredibly kind, attentive, and spoke excellent English, which made everything very easy. Service was flawless. The bar is a real gem, great atmosphere and an impressive selection of cocktails (definitely worth spending an evening there!). The breakfast is on the smaller side, but everything was delicious, so that didn’t bother me at all. My room was perfectly done, so well designed that I’m actually taking inspiration for my own home! Highly recommended if you’re looking for a stylish, comfortable, and welcoming place to stay in Kyoto.

The food! Breakfast was delightful and very homemade with a daily sandwich each morning, then your choice from vegetables, soup, pickles, salad, juices, teas, coffee, pastries, breads, granola, yoghurt, homemade jams and fruit smoothies. All you can eat - and it set us up for the day ahead. There is also a bar area that also serves one daily special in the evening if you’re not going out. Large welcoming reception area with local art, help-yourself amenities and friendly helpful staff. The bathroom pod was clean and effective and you could have the room refreshed any day you wish.

The single room at the hotel has large spacious rooms with a perfect layout! The staff is extremely nice and accommodating. Other perks include reliable free wifi, luggage storage and free rental bike service (2 hours). There’s other areas in the hotel like the lounge, bar, art exhibits that allow guests to roam freely outside of their room. Breakfast buffet was good. The location of the hotel is 5 min away from several bus and subway stops. Overall a really good hotel in a quiet part of the city. Superb value!

We loved this little gem despite the tiny room. The vibe was so friendly, and warm. The reception staff were so kind and generous. They helped us with a few words of Japanese too! For us the location was perfect - south of the station rather than north where all the 'action' is. It felt like living in Kyoto like a local. The restaurants the hotel recommended were carefully chosen and excellent. We had dinner at 3 within a few minutes walk. All were amazing especially the Ramen one! Bed was very comfortable, the room spotlessly clean.

Modern hotel nested in a quiet area. Kyoto station and shopping mall only 10min walk. First floor had a posh lobby with restaurant that offered great breakfast buffet and dinner options. Staff were super friendly and spoke perfect English. Room was clean, bed was comfortable and had good toiletries. The only down side was the lack of an onsite laundry, there is a laundromat 5mins walk but can’t say it’s the cleanest.

Amazing clean modern space, rooms were perfect size and cosy! Bathrooms were modern and immaculate, bed was very comfortable. Close enough to the Main station for making travelling easy and also close to the restaurants and Kyoto tower. Definitely an amazing stay and perfect place to come back to after a big day. Still mesmerized by our stay in Mercure Kyoto. Traveling with family (13 people) in a trip organized by myself , took advantage of my ALL plus membership and we were treated to stay in the 10 floor that included among other things , free snacks and drinks in the lounge between 2:30 and 5. Hotel is not very big and has a restaurant that is used for breakfast but also serves dinner Italian style. Rooms are tastefully decorated and include a nespresso coffee machine ( at least the ones in the 10th floor) . Breakfast has a very good choice of western / Japanese food. During our stay although busy it wasn’t awfully crowded. Amazing choice of toiletries in the bathroom and very nice shower including rain shower and different kind of pressures There is a library / lounge to relax in the basement, again, super tastefully decorated. Location about 19 minutes from Kyoto train station. Beds were very comfy and we booked one with sofa bed for the kids to sleep with us. If in Kyoto again I would not look anywhere else.

This hotel was a bit hard to initially find, the direction map we printed out beforehand wasn't exactly very accurate...which has nothing to do with this hotel. Eventually found the entrance in a little back street and was somewhat apprehensive. Walked into the lobby area and immediately impressed by its quirkiness. Room was very modern and upmarket, looked very recently renovated. Bed super comfy and bathroom very nice indeed. Loved everything about this quirky hotel, good breakfast and restaurant/bar....staff were great and very helpful. Would be very happy to stay here next time in Kyoto....definitely recommend it.

It's a nice and quiet budget hotel with very kind and helpful staff. I would choose to stay again. - Central location with good bus and subway connections very close by (check the reviews for a comment on the step-free exit from the subway - it was helpful). - Exceptionally helpful and attentive staff. - The bathroom was relatively big, very clean and well maintained. - Buffet breakfast looked fresh and flavoursome. The layout made it look small but there was a lot of Asian food to choose from. There were fewer continental-type options but there was cereal available as well as fresh pastry and jam. There were a few vegetarian and vegan options too. The breakfast area looked clean. - The hotel offers free shuttle service to the Gold Pavilion and the bamboo grove which is a nice touch. - A kettle and cups are available in the room; bottled water is provided if the basic cleaning service is selected. - There are two paid washing machines/dryers in the basement. We used the service and it worked. It didn't bother us but the room didn't have any view. Many thanks to the staff who helped us enjoy our stay.

This property is in a nice quieter area of Kyoto, about 1 block, 2-3min walk, from a subway station. There is a convenience store and small grocery store a couple doors down as well. Unfortunately, there aren't that many restaurants nearby, but since it's close to a subway station, you can easily get to areas with more restaurants. It's very well kept, pretty modern, and the staff are extremely helpful and friendly. As mentioned by other reviews, and as expected with Japan in general, the rooms are on the small side. The room we were in is just large enough for 2 adults and maybe one child on a fold out bed. We are a family of 2 adults and 2 children, so they added one more bed to the room on top of that. While this room technically can be made for a family of 4, it was quite cramped. We made it work, and chances are you won't be staying in the room the majority of the day anyway... this is just a heads up for families of 4. The restaurant and buffet breakfast is not bad. I wouldn't hesitate to pay for it if you want sometime convenient and quick before heading out for activities in the morning. The dining area is a little small so best to go earlier than later if you want a table. The variety of food is limited by the size of the area as well, but they do a good job with what they have. I probably wouldn't pre-pay for breakfast everyday if that were an option when booking. Overall our 3 night stay was very enjoyable and would stay again in the future.

It's a very convenient located nice modern hotel. Check-in and check-out process are seamless. You can use the counter or kiosk. Their breakfast buffet is excellent. Juice, toast, rice curry, salad, western and Japanese breakfast are there for your liking. I purchase three breakfast on the spot for ¥1800. They are eco-friendly in a way of you don't need maid service, they won't bother you for 3 nights or you just put a sign out there and they will come fix it up for you which I like. Personally I found everyday maid service is excessive. Besides subway, they also have bus stop close by. So if you want to go Gion district. Just about 7-9 mins walk to the station. Staff are friendly and courteous. They have laundry ¥300 wash with detergent and ¥100 30 mins dry. Very reasonable. And they have machines' status show on their TV. So you know when they are available.

Well suited for tourists, everything is translated and the staff speaks very good English. We were welcomed well. Easy check in and out. Large room. Very clean. Trash bins emptied daily, which was appreciated in Japan. Towels changed daily. Washing machines in good condition, easy to use. Safe area. Fast wifi in the room. Grocery store right next door. Free teas and alcohol at the entrance. Blackout curtains, we slept well. Big shower, amazing. Bottled water offered as rewards for eco-friendly behavior. Several western options at the morning buffet, it was excellent. We loved the little sofa in front of the window to have our tea in the morning. Several Japanese channels on TV. Space for hanging laundry. Fridge.

Very nice and cosy town-hotel in quiet area walking distance to places of interest in Kyoto (including old town etc). Close to station but not easy to find as no big signs at the house. No restaurants close by but convenience store right opposite the hotel. Very friendly and helpful English speaking (international) staff, nice bar in the lobby where we also met local people and had fun. Everything new, very clean, excellent housekeeping. Beautiful good sized room, silent, well equipped including safe, mini-bar, coffee grinder good Wi-Fi etc. Although they don't have too much space the architects managed to fit in a truly great Japanese bathroom! We enjoyed very much!

I really enjoyed my stay at Gion Misen Furumonzen. My room was very stylish and comfortable, and I loved the bathroom. The bathtub was amazing! The staff were also wonderful: very polite and helpful any time I had a question. I've seen other reviews complaining that the staff isn't friendly, but essentially these complaints seem focused on the fact that the staff are mostly European rather than Japanese. This should be seen as a pro, rather than a con. They are all multi-lingual, meaning they can help a greater range of travellers in their own languages. For a city like Kyoto that draws visitors from every corner of the globe, having multi-lingual staff at a hotel is an absolute bonus. The location of the hotel is great too. Right on the edge of Gion, so the area is walkable (I walked as far south as Kiyomizu-dera) but the street itself is quiet, which I appreciated. And it's very close to Sanjo Station, which makes travel quite easy (no need to take any packed buses). The one thing, as other reviewers have mentioned, is the pillow situation. The pillows in the room were like pancakes. I had two beds in my room, so I was able to use the additional pillows, but for a relatively expensive boutique hotel, you'd expect better pillows, or a pillow bar in the lobby. If business-class hotels can have a pillow bar, so can boutique hotels. This hotel's rating would instantly improve if they added a pillow bar. Beyond that, I had a great stay and was sad to leave, haha.

Wonderful place. Service was very friendly and efficient. Hotel was very clean and well designed. Room was very comfortable and clean. I've visited Kyoto a handful of times over the years, and this was definitely my favorite room for the price. The bed was on the hard side, but surprisingly comfortable. I really miss that bed now. Bathroom was very clean and comfortable as well. The included breakfast is slightly on the light side, being mostly vegetables. However, it was super tastey (and very healthy). The jams that they have to go with their bread is amazing. Location is pretty good. Just a 5-10 minute walk from the nearest subway station. Not difficult to get to from Kyoto Station. Very quiet neighborhood. A convenience store is directly across the street.

The hotel is located in Gion on a quiet street . Walkable to a lot of temples and Gion tourist shopping street is also very close. Fish market and restaurants are right across the river. The room is comfortable, was upgraded to a garden view but it’s not really a garden if it’s only a 3 feet deep garden ousdie of the window that facing walls of other buildings, you can never see the sky in that room. We usually call that room with no view. The only problem tho is that if you want late check out will be a charge but there’s no storage for luggages. You can only leave them at a corner unattended which doesn’t seem so safe. Staffs are friendly

I had the pleasure of staying at Gion Misen Furumonzen, and I must say it was a truly exceptional experience. From the moment I arrived, I was captivated by the charm and tranquility of this wonderful establishment. The highlight of my stay was undoubtedly the garden view room. If it's available, don't hesitate to choose it! The view was absolutely breathtaking, with lush greenery and a serene atmosphere that instantly whisked me away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. I found myself spending hours simply gazing out of the window, savoring the peacefulness of the garden. The attention to detail at Gion Misen Furumonzen is truly commendable. The room itself was impeccably clean and tastefully decorated, blending traditional Japanese aesthetics with modern comforts seamlessly. The tatami flooring and sliding paper doors added an authentic touch to the experience. The staff at the hotel were exceptionally warm and attentive, making me feel like a valued guest from the moment I arrived. A bit of a walk from the subway and can be tricky to find on the first day. Stayed at the top floor rooms which provided us breakfast in room every morning as well as green tea upon arrival checkin. Room was lovely with its own mini garden and also own bathroom and toilet which was great as some nights we were too tired to venture downstairs to the public bath. The lady that served us breakfast took great care to explain each dish every morning and was very attentive. Room was spacious and clean with a bar fridge provided. Not sure about the other floors but it seems the top floor rooms are nicely designed and quite large. Sleeping on Futons on the tatami mats was comfy and always welcome after a day of trekking around the sights in Kyoto. The personal send off's when you depart is cute and a nice touch to an enjoyable stay. Would definitely stay again on my next visit to Kyoto.

Good location. The hotel staff is very friendly, the service is more "personalized" feels rather than the chain hotel style. Make sure you pick the rate include breakfast and dinner; the food is good and is so much cheaper if you eat similar food at the near restaurant. I am not sure the water at hot shared bath on the basement floor is coming from onsen or not, but it does help to release some stress from a day of walking. Overall, I am happy with the stay; my recommendation is to order breakfast and dinner if you are staying, you will get more value out from it.

Great location, quiet and convenient. Be sure to get the Japanese breakfast—a once in a lifetime experience. Our boys (12 and 14) enjoyed the hotel and its amenities as much as I did. The one piece of furniture we missed was a couch—which was fine as we did want to get the authentic Japanese experience. Front desk was very helpful with restaurant recommendations and reservations. Even though one of us is vegetarian, their breakfasts and restaurant choices were still solid. Highly recommended.

Convenient location in central Kyoto, amidst the modern buildings and near transit, but feeling very secluded. You will sleep on futons rolled out by your room attendant on the tatami mats. In the morning the attendant rolls them up and puts them away and serves you breakfast (fantastic Japanese food for the first breakfast) in your room. Enjoy the kaiseki dinner in-room for a treat. Try the onsen and soak in the hot water while looking at the beautiful stone wall with waterfall.

This is a small hotel run by a friendly staff. The room we had was spacious, clean, nicely designed and decorated. It is a combination of western beds and traditional Japanese sitting area with a private bath and toilet. Its is quiet and close enough to catch various subway trains. The staff are very helpful and friendly. I will stay here again if I ever visit Kyoto again.

Amazing little hotel in kyoto , we had a jacuzzi on the deck and it was lovely. Room was clean and spacious, quiet and the food in the little restaurant was excellent and cheap be careful we ordered a lot as the cheap prices fooled us into thinking this was snack sized plates🙈 we got a shock when it was brought out tried our best to finish it but it was a lot of food either way very tasty. If I come back to kyoto I'd definitely stay again was excellent value for such a large comfortable clean and convenient room.

Facility and staff was amazing. Stayed in one of there suites with jacuzzi. 10 minute walk from the station. They held our luggage early in the morning the day we checked in. When we came back to check in they had already placed our luggage in our room, which was very nice and convenient. English translation was very impressive.

If there were an 11/10 I would give it to this place, it was amazing :) from the super friendly staff (always ready to help out or give recommendations for the city) to the clean and spacious facilities. The bedroom were perfectly structured and you have a pretty big closet where you can store a lot of things and lock it with a key (same for the bedroom). Also laundry is available for just 200 yen. The common area is very cozy and nice, with a real guesthouse atmosphere and traditional Japanese seatings surrounded by board games and books for your comfort and entertainment. You can also rent a bike and you have free fresh towels everyday, as well as all toiletries. I absolutely enjoyed the breakfast, both the normal one (free) with fresh fruits, bread, jam, yogurt and orange juice (tea and coffee always available) and the Japanese one for the additional price of 800 yen (worth it every penny) with a fish, rice, seaweed, vegetables and delicious miso soup. I want to thank again the staff for 3 amazing nights and I am sure I will stay there again if I ever go back to Kyoto :)

Guesthouse Soi was an extremely comfortable and well located place for our visit to Kyoto. Our room was clean and spacious, the provided breakfast was a simple but tasty start to the day, with the upgraded Japanese breakfast being one of the best meals we’ve had during our stay here. Maki and Sim were so friendly and helpful, and I constantly witnessed them helping people throughout our stay. This saved us when we left our bag in a bus and they were immediately able to contact the bus company and the restaurant we were in prior to confirm where they were - something that would have been extremely hard without a local phone number and fluent Japanese. Guesthouse Soi will be our first choice if we return to Kyoto.

They posted relevant and changing things on a notice board, eg. a light show that was on for winter, a sale on clothing brand, a market. Everything a traveller and tourist might want! Breakfast was so nice, opportunity to have real coffee and fresh fruit and yoghurt. Every touch was great, like there's washing machines and places to hang clothes up on the roof. Always water and tea available to take, and nice areas to socialise and read if you want to, including travel books and novels in English, Japanese, and a few other languages. Our private room with ensuite was modern and clean. Maki our host was amazing, she and Sim seem like really interesting people. By chance realised I had stayed in one of their previous guesthouses in Chengdu, same peaceful and friendly vibes. Great beer and sake bar down the street called the Windmill, he had great music, and local recommendations for food also. Is clearly a guesthouse for made by travellers, for travellers. Best place we stayed out of 6 in Japan.

I had an incredible stay at this charming guesthouse, which was perfectly located near all the major sightseeing spots. The convenience of being so close to everything made exploring the area so much easier. The breakfast was a delightful start to each day, with unlimited fresh fruits, yoghurt, coffee, juice, and breads with butter and a variety of jams—simple but delicious! What truly set this stay apart was the hospitality. The family running the guesthouse went above and beyond to make our visit memorable. They were not only kind and welcoming but also very helpful and informative, always offering great local tips. Throughout our time there, they treated us like part of their family, making us feel right at home. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a warm, welcoming, and convenient stay!

Clean, very comfy room. Shared bathroom was spotless, with enough room for all guests and excellent privacy. Incredibly helpful, gracious, friendly staff. Very quiet at night. Perfect location for me. I felt genuinely welcome, the other guests were great fun, and the locals came by to enjoy a casual evening in the lobby to share stories. note: I have a severe spinal injury and sleeping can be difficult. The futon on the tatami was incredibly comfy!!! I slept so well!

Situated very close and directly connected to Kyoto Station via a covered walkaway, the hotel ensures unbeatable convenience for exploring Kyoto and nearest cities- Shinkansen, subway, busses, the station complex with shops, restaurants, diners, are just a step away. However, regardless of this location, the rooms are extremely quiet and very comfortable, very clean and spacious. There is a small Zen garden in the terrace, which was a lovely detail to add in to the comfort of the room. The staff is very polite and helpful and we had seamless check-in and check-out. The breakfast is buffet and it is worth paying for-very diverse, providing both Japanese delicacies and top-tier Western options. The hotel is a combination of luxury and very convenient urban location.

Everything! I lucked out as I reserved the room at an unusually great price that included breakfast. The bed was super comfortable; the shower had great pressure; and the breakfast was excellent - I preferred the western style buffet rather than the set Japanese menu. The entire staff was outstanding - professional, courteous, and helpful. The building was modern yet sublimely Japanese in decor. Loved the aroma in the entrance area so much that I bought a small bottle of the oil. The location could not be more convenient, right next to the Kyoto train station and the city bus terminal.

Cleanliness: The hotel is very clean and well-maintained throughout. However, the entrance feels a bit dark and lacks the welcoming atmosphere you might expect from a hotel of this standard. Staff: The staff were consistently professional, supportive, and helpful. Their attentiveness made the stay smooth and comfortable. Overall Impression: A solid and well-located hotel with clean rooms and excellent staff service. While some aspects like the spa may not offer great value for money, it remains a reliable and comfortable choice—especially for those looking to stay near Kyoto Station.

Location was perfect. Breakfast was superb! So many choices, beautifully presented and highest quality! Excellent cappuccino and espresso too. Our king room was so spacious and beautifully designed. We are celebrating our anniversary and they presented us with beautiful orchids( my favorite) and delicious chocolates! The hotel itself is stunning with modern clean lines and a fabulous art installation and the hotel looks brand new! And all the staff were so very kind and welcoming!

Amazing! The room was massive for Kyoto standards and beautiful. Every detail was considered and then some. Numerous small touches and thoughtful amenities throughout. The jacuzzi bathtub and shower were to die for!

Our room was HUGE with a beautiful view of the autumn leaves and river in Kyoto - and super centrally located to a lot of great restaurants and sightseeing spots in Gion. I am still honestly dreaming about the jacuzzi tub - walking 20k+ steps in Japan and being able to soak in the tub was a dream. I was also super impressed by the amenities, I've never been to a hotel that also provides a hair straightener but it was amazing. I loved this hotel so much and was very sad to leave it.

Hotel Alza Kyoto was hands down the best of the four hotels I stayed in during my trip to Japan. The location is unbeatable—perfectly situated near transportation and major tourist sites, making it easy to explore the city. The room was spotless, modern, and filled with high-tech touches that made the stay extra comfortable. One of the highlights? A jacuzzi tub with a built-in TV—such a relaxing treat after a day of sightseeing. Everything about my stay felt thoughtful and top-quality. Highly recommended!

Huge room, more like a western hotel room size. Sofa bed and table for dining in the room. Bath was jacuzzi style, with oxygenated micro bubble function in addition to traditional Japanese shower. Excellent view of the river and trees in their autumn livery. For those who have to open every cupboard and drawer in hotel rooms, there’s a surprise that awaits!

This hotel is the epitome of Kyoto, a blend of modern amenities and traditional Kyoto charm. The neighborhood is close to all the main attractions but on a very quiet and quaint street. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Rooms are very well maintained and very clean. For a relatively small hotel, our room offers so many amenities; from your mini fridge, towel warmer, slippers & robes. The rooms are spacious and very comfortable with lots of space for luggage and counter space. The breakfast bento boxes were a nice treat to have first thing in the morning as coffee and breakfast cafes were not very close by. Overall we had a very comfortable and enjoyable stay here.

Very spacious apartment with large comfy beds and a balcony overlooking the river. Just outside the hotel are rows and rows of great restaurants and tiny bars that we absolutely loved. Great coffee and wine shop with friendly and helpful staff just a minutes walk away. Also a short 10 minute walk to the historic gion district. Staff were also very friendly and helpful.

This was the perfect place for our first time to Kyoto. So happy to have found this amazing place! It was very clean, large and roomy so we could spread out which was really nice after staying in very small hotel rooms traveling around other parts of Japan. It was located in a beautiful neighborhood. A safe, clean and contemporary area full of restaurants, coffee shops, convenience stores, and even a bike shop where we rented bikes. We don't mind walking so we walked to Gion (about a 15 minute walk), Nishiki market, the train station, restaurants, grocery stores and so much more. The staff was always so friendly, pleasant and helpful especially with luggage transfer or any question we had. This is truly a hidden gem. 10 out of 10. I would stay here again in a second and recommend it to anyone, especially first timers to Kyoto. Book it! You won't be disappointed

This is the third time we've been in Kyoto and the first time staying at this aparthotel. Room 302 offered beautiful views of the Kamogawa river and served as a perfect respite after a long day of sightseeing. The location is perfect - along a quiet street next to the river, and within walkable distance to many local eateries, convenience stores, supermarkets, malls, and fast food restaurants such as Mos Burger (must try!), Mcdonald's to satisfy your little ones. The walk to Kyoto Station is about 25 mins and old town area around Kiyomizu-dera is a leisurely 15 mins walk away. The staff here are fantastic, especially Alex, who went the extra mile to message us when our luggage was picked up by the forwarding company. Best service staff we've encountered in Japan!

This was the best place we stayed during our two week trip. We stayed for four nights in unit 301 with a river view. Very spacious for three of us. My parents were also in town, so they were able to visit us one day for breakfast and hang out. Kitchenette was functional and we used it every day. Location was excellent. We walked to Kiyomizu-dera, Gion, and the main shopping area. Two organic groceries within 17 min walk and several convenience store/restaurants within 5 min walk. Easy access to other sites via kiyomizu-gojo subway/train station. Alex at the front desk was very friendly and helpful.

The room was a nice size, perfect for a family of 4 adults. We had a room with a balcony and view of the Kamo river, which was so nice to sit out on and enjoy. We could see the mountains and Kiyomizu-Dera across the city. Very peaceful setting. In addition, the host at the front desk was so helpful, with recommendations on points of interest, restaurants and helping us with Taxis! I highly recommend the Kyoto Riverview House! It's definitely worth the extra price for a river-facing room!

Stayed for 5 nights in a 30 square metre standard western style apartment with twin beds. At only a year old, still in good condition. Well thought out and executed. Had a lounge and 4 seater dining table, separate bath/ shower room ( with excellent rain shower), separate ( tiny) toilet room and a kitchenette with cooktop, fridge, microwave, and oven/toaster. All the crockery and kitchen equipment you need for basic cooking. Plenty of hanging space plus drawers and a safe. Large window let in plenty of light though view not great ( rooftops and apartments). Could be opened but unfortunately was locked. Air con efficient and quiet. Saw other residents but very quiet. Check in and out was streamlined and having a passcode rather than room key was a great concept. 2 coin operated shared use washing machines available in the basement. We found the location excellent:- less than 10 minute walk to Sanjo and Gion-Shijo stations or to Kyoto City tourist bus stop and many local buses. Easy flat walk to the river, Pontocho, Nishiki etc on one side and Yasaka Shrine, Marayuma Park, Kodak-ji on the other. Family Mart downstairs and Lawsons around the corner with excellent FRESO supermarket 10 mins walk away. Many restaurants nearby. Recommend Onigiri Kiki next door for delicious takeaway onigiri. Also Teppan Manryu just over a block away towards Shijo on the same side of the street. Very small so go early and/or book.

Modern, comfortable and stylish. Everything was super clean. We had a big balcony (although we didn't use it because of rain) which gave the apartment lots of light and an airy feeling. The art work on the wall is fabulous. The black out curtains were super good. We booked the private spa (it has a Finnish sauna) and it was 100% worth it. The duvets were fluffy and comfy. We did not use the kitchen so can't comment on that. The lobby was seldom staffed, but we could always get through to someone by using the computer in the lobby. That's how we did the check in and that worked well. Washing machine was easy to use. It's a stretch to say it has a seperate bedroom. It's L-shaped studio space, with comfy futon beds in the living room/kitchen and then a couple of futon beds next to the balcony. But we kinda knew from the photos so it was not a surprise.

Location great, easy check in/check out process, very friendly and professional service, very clean facilities. Having a washing/drying machine on site was tremendously helpful. Room very spacious, kitchen and bathroom well stocked. The shower was the highlight, simply amazing! I would definitely stay there again on my next visit.

We stayed here for a week with our 5-month-old, and it was the perfect base for exploring Kyoto. The room was spacious and big, and had comfy beds. The location was incredibly convenient—right in Gion for easy walks and close to trains and buses for exploring other attractions. Plus, there were plenty of restaurants and shops nearby. Having a small kitchenette was a bonus—it made breakfast and tea breaks so much easier. While it was on the pricier side for us, we were halfway through our journey and appreciated the convenience and comfort. It was well worth it!

Minn Gion was amazing and we would definitely stay here again. The rooms were very spacious with comfortable beds, big showers and nice kitchen area. The room and entire property was exceptionally clean. There is a small laundry area in the basement with 2 machines that were easy to use. We did laundry twice with no issues. The sauna and spa was very relaxing and it was nice that you could reserve the whole area for yourself. The property is walking distance from a train station and there is a Family Mart right next door. There are tons of restaurants withing walking distance as well as temples and other attractions. Would definitely recommend Minn Gion to anyone who is looking for a lovely stay in Kyoto!
