All the high standards for service, cleanliness, and design that you would typically find in a larger hotel, but with the focused, personalized attention of a B&B. My room was well designed, impeccably clean, and a welcome respite from my business in the city during the trip. My favourite features of the room were the high ceilings, big windows with lots of light, an amazing shower, and comfortable bed. The staff were incredibly professional yet warm - I found everyone I encountered to be genuinely friendly. You can tell the place was built with love and they are happy to be working there. A great environment overall and conveniently located to two metro stops (Florastraße and Messe Ost/Gruga). I would definitely stay again!

The room was modern and spacious, even with air conditioning. The hotel was quiet and our baby of 10 month slept perfectly. Usually we never book breakfast and just find something outside but in this case we are glad we last minute decided to add breakfast to our booking. It was very clean and there was definitely something for everyone. We would come back here anytime.

Conveniently located close to the highway to Dusseldorf, good for our daily comute to an exhibition there. Small place with character. Our first room (a junior suite) was not a good experience - the cleanliness was very poor, it seemed very dusty, some of the curtains were not fixed on their place and they were greysh… The design was interesting (open shower directly from the room, sink in the room) but the execution very poor if you looked at some details. I had the chance to see another room’s interior and we asked for a change for the second night. Completely different story in terms of aspect and cleanliness. So, the finall impression remained a good one. The host was very friendly. I hope she fixed the first room issues based on our feedback. I appreciate that she arranged for us a very early breakfast the morning we left. The breakfast saloon small but cosy, balanced assortment of food, omelett on demand, everything delicious.

This hotel exceeded expectations! The hotel was in the perfect location for the convention center, and was easily walkable. Check in was over the phone, with a key box outside. The room was immaculate. If you are a light sleeper, request a quieter room. Ours was in the corner on the street and was a bit noisy at night, but not impossible. The breakfast was amazing, and the owner was amazing.

The staff (and owners) were very friendly and attentive. The location, very close to Messe Essen, was perfect. The exceptional breakfast. A success

Based on the reviews that I read, I had high hopes for this place, and it exceeded my expectations. The staff and maintenance of the hotel are exceptional. The photos online do not do it justice. I loved the small details like fresh flowers and candles on the table at the restaurant and in the breakfast rooms. It was evident that attention to detail is paid in the upkeep of the hotel. I felt so welcome upon arriving, "welcome" drink and chocolate, yes please. I don't speak German and they made sure to send a server my way during the two nights that I ate dinner in the restaurant. The food was fabulous. I loved the ambiance of their restaurant. Breakfast was great. The location is about a ten minute walk from the heart of Kettwig. It is less than a five minute walk from an Aldi and Lidl. I went for a run each morning in the countryside towards the village of Mintard. I stayed for two nights after being in Cologne for business. The stay was just what I needed to relax after a busy week. This is one of the few places that left me with the feeling that I would love to go back someday.

What a find. We pulled into the parking lot in our trusty van and before we could get our luggage our host Juergen, was at hand with two craft beers and a bar of chocolate. The hotel has been in the family for 99 years and it shows. Our room was spacious and well appointed. All rooms seem different and have lots of charm. The bedding was excellent. Bathroom was also good with an excellent shower. Dinner was in the warm and friendly Keller like restaurant, full of locals too. The menu was standard German pub fare, lots of it and with prompt and friendly service. So if you need a stop anywhere near Essen, go no further than this fine family establishment, where the guest is truly king!

We spent a weekend here for a friend's birthday party. The owners are wonderful - friendly, helpful, smiling. We had a suite with a bedroom and a living room. The living room had an A/C but the bedroom did not. We didn't try it so have no idea if A/C works. The shower was a walk in with excellent water pressure; the bathroom had a large counter for 2 people. Bed was comfy and breakfast was good - usual German breakfast. It's a short walk to the River Ruhr and center of the old town. I would stay here again any time!

This has been my 3rd time in Essen (Kettwig) and my 3rd time at this location and I wouldn't stay anywere else! The roooms are beautiful, amazingly clean with beautiful bathrooms. The hotel owner greets you upon arrival with a welcome drink and chocolate bar and is extremely helpful, truly treatng you as family. Nice buffet breakfast, restaurant on site with both an outdoor and indoor seating area and traditioanl German cuisine. Vehicle parking on site too. The hotel is a bit of a walk to the historic part however, possible.

It is located right in the middle of a UNESCO site. The coal mine was right there and now you can explore the site and a museum. Hotel’s decoration shows that as well. The interior design is very cool and modern. From the color choices to lighting to furniture, it is a very cozy property throughout. The highlight of our trip, however, was to see the dancer of the TS, apparently they were staying here as well, at least half of them. My kiddo was star struck. Overall weighted score: 5.0 out of 5.0 Would we come back? Yes and Yes, especially if you are going to Gelsenkirchen arena.

24h front desk and bar that also sell comprehensive selection of small local souvenirs and essential items...mini Listerines! Staff were excellent. Front of house staff were personal, fun, and remember you. Really top professionals. Room was impeccably clean, every day. Room staff also mentioned their typical schedule on the welcome form and were very perceptive of morning routines and breakfast times of individual rooms...like magic they worked without disturbing, and that is also a mark of a true professional operation. Hotel decor and theme gives an immediate feeling of immersion in the environment of the mining history...which is why you stay here. We were a couple staying three nights to visit the Rhur industrial culture sights. This was the perfect base. We were so tempted to just stay on the Zollverien complex the whole time due in large part to this hotel's comfort and it's walking proximity to so many great restaurants, museums, shops, and artist ateliers. We loved it and will tell our friends to visit this corner of German history!

Wonderful hotel, very stylish and has charisma. It's located in a quiet place, former industrial site, so the atmosphere is pretty unique. Convenient location - big parking lot and also 8 minutes walk from a train station. Stayed there during Euro 2024 and were super happy with it. The staff was super friendly and helpful, food delicious - what else do you need for a lovely stay?

This hotel is really clean. I was treated to room service everyday. The spa was beautiful well kept and lots of relaxing seating. They had tea on the go whenever you want. The hotel location suited me because i was visiting my family, but the area is very isolated not much going on. The staff was very friendly and very helpful. I did not have breakfast because i thought it should've been included!

Nice and bright room, super comfortable bed, easy parking. Cosy lounge restaurant and bar attached to the Hotel and a nice terrace in the warmer weather.

Fantastic second stay at this superb hotel. Very polite and friendly staff. A lovely relaxing and nice bar. I cannot comment on the breakfast as we did not partake. We will be back again next year.

Everything. The breakfast was very versatile and we loved the restaurant food as well! We didn't even eat out somewhere else because the food of the restaurant was so good. The staff is super friendly and there is free parking. We will definitely come back here. One of the best hotels we have ever stayed at.

I always try to stay here on my journeys through Germany and this was my third visit. Friendly attentive staff, great room and comfortable bed. Excellent quality food in the restaurant. Good private car park.

just for one night passing through. at arrival on a friday night we noticed the restaurant downstairs with people talking and some music. in our room on the 1st floor we heard nothing of this. our room was on the street side and we slept with the window open. just a good comfortable room, adequate bathroom. what makes this hotel stick out: 1) a selection of multiple draught beers in the restaurant downstairs. 2) I think I saw at least 8 ev chargers, of which the most were unoccupied. we left the following morning with a full battery. 3) breakfast was also very good, with many choices.

Restaurant was very good and friendly. Location was convenient for a quiet stop on longer travels along German motorways.

A very beautiful hotel in a quiet an nice neighborhood. The room was very spacious, clean, with a small fridge, water heater and coffee and tea. The breakfast was very nice and all the food had exceptional quality. it had even freshly squeezed orange juice and pan cakes to make them yourself. It has also free parking space in front of the hotel which is very safe. The staff were very kind and helpful. I totally suggest it 100%.

I got a room with a little balcony which was very nice. Large, safe parking space. There was a bottle of water waiting for me, jelly beans on my bed, kettle, coffee and tea, large room with comfortable bed and big bathroom, walk-in shower. I arrived late, just after 11pm but I was attended by hotel staff and received a warm welcome. The best was delicious buffet breakfast which was included in the price.

We had a bussiness trip and very satisfied with the hotel. Beds are comfortable, bath is clean, the water pressure is good. The hotel is located close by to the train station and just a few steps away from public transport. You will be greeted by a very friendly and welcoming lady at the reception and you will immediately see that the whole hotel is kept in a very well maintained condition. The room offer enough space for either work, sleep or have a good bath and although there wasn’t AC and was quite hot outside, the temperature inside remained quite comfortable. One can open the window, but depends where the room stands, you might get street sounds from the alley of the more noisy street, nevertheless I was able to have a good night sleep. The bed was actually very comfortable! The bathroom offers enough space and the furnishings are tip top. The was hand soap and shower gel, towels naturally included. I wish I had found this stay before other private (worse) apartments which I have booked before in the area! Breakfast can be ordered separately, but just outside the hotel there are many options to choose from. Definitely a well worth stay here and I hear there’s also a garage to store bikes in case you come for a rightly deserved vacation!

Great value, great location, great staff. Room was very clean and had everything one would need. The room is perfect for single travellers, not too small and with a private bathroom. Excellent location - extremely close to the Essen central train station, literally a minute or two of walking. And also very close to the area of the city where there are numerous options to have some food (for example, great restaurant with German cuisine was just 10 minutes on foot away; a couple of coffee shops/bakeries - within a minute). Controllable air conditioning in the room and, what is extremely important, one which doesn't blow straight on you while you're sleeping. Comfortable beds, pillows, and blankets. Spacious room and very spacious bathroom. In the room you can find not only electrical kettle with cups and selection of teas, but also a Nespresso coffee machine with a few capsules. We did not have breakfast, so can't rate it.

It is the second time I have visited the Essener Hof. The hotel is conveniently situated near the central station. The staff was very kind and helpful. The room was clean and spacious, and the bed was comfortable. Perfect for my short stay in Essen. Until next time.

Location is perfect for those who search for quiet area. The window in our apartment looked out onto the courtyard which is very nice, green and quiet. The area of the city Rüttenscheid where the hotel is located is very cozy, comfortable, quiet and clean neighborhood. The apartment was great. Everything was clean and comfortable. It's very fresh as well.

The location is great with easy access to the U11 train to Essen Hbf. It's also next to Grugapark, a large park with gardens and a great place for a morning run. If you drive and are willing to walk a bit, you can find free parking in the neighborhood around the hotel. The room was spacious, clean, and modern, with a comfortable bed and large bathroom and shower. The windows had metal shutters, which were nice for keeping it dark to sleep in. The breakfast was tasty, but a bit expensive.

We can not thank the staff in the hotel enough! Such kind and helpful people. We broke down on autobahn with a trailer in tow, the not only helped us with calling mechanics, provide safe parking for the car and trailer, lent us tools and let us check out late as we were waiting for rescue people the following day. We slep super well in the best beads ever! Even the kids spare bed was good! We were so tried when we finally arrived in the evening and kids didn’t want to go out to a restaurant, so we made some pasta as there was a stow and small kitchen. The room was very luxurious, sleek interiors with big windows. No noises and comfy pillows of all shapes. The soap and shampoo was very nice, no conditioner, so bring your own. The breakfast in the morning was nice and healthy. We can recommend this hotel 100% to families (great to get a large family room) or any one else going to Essen! Thank you again, we’ll be back for sure!

Have stayed many times at the Ruhr Inn and as expected, the room was clean, comfortable and spacious with good TV and WiFi. The Hotel has free parking and is close to local shops and restaraunts.

Convenient walk into the local town. Staff were very helpful with booking taxis and advising us about local attractions, etc. They were also incredibly friendly and always had time for a chat. Rooms were cleaned every day. Very nice place to stay and will come back in future

The breakfast was delicious and the staff at breakfast were charming and hard working. The location is fantastic- so close to the Essen Philharmonie, the main train station, all forms of public transport, restaurants and the Messe /Grugapark. The 24 hour reception is great, the bar staff are super and so is the bar food. The rooms are fabulous and so helpful to have a small fridge.

We were there for the Spiel, they let you use the breakfast area later during the day to play your games. Room was spacious and comfortable. Very nice and clean. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

Stayed here two times now, while attending Messe Essen. Staff was friendly and good at English. Parking easy, taxis easy and short walking distance to many restaurants. Poor pillow selection and very firm bed unfortunately, but apart from that the rooms are nice and spacious. TV sound is horrible and noise from hallway/other rooms travel easily. In 2019 we stayed at the first floor facing the street, which was very noisy. In 2025 on the 4th floor facing the street, which was no problem. Breakfast buffet is fantastic, much better and more comprehensive than one would expect from a hotel of this size. Service, cleaning and filling up the stations was fast as well. Highly recommend it.

Breakfast was excellent, with high quality foods and lots of different items to choose from. The family room we were given was spacious and offered a small divider to separate our space from that of our children. The location of the hotel is excellent; it's very near the Essen Central Railway station (walking distance), very near a Metro Station and it's walking distance from the Messe Essen (1,6km). Also, within very easy walking distance, there is a street parallel to the one the hotel is situated on, which offers a wide range of restaurants and shops. The staff was very friendly, spoke fluent English and everything was very easy for us.

Very pleasant peaceful stay. Was given a room with balcony at my request. Cleaning staff did not leave a voucher (for opting not to get your room cleaned, you get a voucher for a free soft drink in the bar), but bar man accommodated me no problem. All staff very friendly!

The weekend we spent at the hotel, the square had been converted into a big beach party with sand, sun loungers, beach volleyball and a stage for live music. It was a hot weekend (the temperature was somewhere in the 30s Celsius) and the beach party theme was perfect. The hotel is an old insurance building and is a heritage building. As a result, the corridors and rooms boast high ceilings and the rooms have large windows that open fully. The double glazing ensures the rooms are quiet and the air conditioning worked well at keeping our room cool. The rooms are small and sparsely furnished bur are clean and comfortable. If one isn't used to German beds, the two separate mattresses and duvets might come as a surprise but they are pretty common all across the country. As mentioned above, the days we spent in Essen were hot and we would have liked a fridge in the room to chill drinks and maybe keep some food in the room. This proved to be only a minor inconvenience, though. All in all the hotel with its friendly staff and great location were a win and I would gladly recommend it.

The hotel is modern and clean, with strong free Wi-Fi. It is centrally located in a pedestrianized area, near many nice restaurants and shops; close to the train station, underground, and parking. I only stayed one night. The front desk reception was efficient. The room was clean and comfortable; the bathroom was a little small, having only a shower stall, but good water pressure. I checked out early, so can't say anything about the breakfast/restaurant. Overall, I was very happy with my short stay and will stay at Motel One again in the future.

The hotel feels very modern and fresh with good value for money. The hotel is located by a large square in central Essen, near pubs, theatres, shopping, sights and the U-bahn. I stayed there for a convention at Messe Essen and I could get straight from the nearest U-bahn station directly to the convention centre. The train station (Essen Hauptbahnhof) was one stop away by U-bahn but it was more convenient to just walk to/from there. The breakfast was without remarks, but not outstanding. The staff was very friendly. I have very few remarks and none of them is serious: the bedside light switch was difficult to find (I had to ask the staff), the desk was not near any electrical socket (but it was small and light, so I just lifted it to the other side of the room) and I had to re-authenticate the Wifi every day. There was also no phone or alarm clock in the room, but any traveller should have their own.

Great staff! Very friendly and helpful. The simple room had a comfortable double bed. I didn't see a kettle, mugs, or fridge. Cable tv with channels in multiple languages. The bathroom was a little on the small size, but had everything one needs. Good shower. Soap and body wash provided, but they aren't great quality. I didn't have the breakfast in the morning, but it seemed a good price and quality. Overall - very positive. Perfect if you just need a place to lay your head. If you're looking for a luxury suite, keep looking. I will be staying here again in the future.

We have stayed at this hotel a few times and we always come back. Rooms are very affordable, clean and spacious. Front desk team are awesome. Always helpful. Location is perfect. This time though we were a little disappointed with the breakfast. Selection not as good as it used to be and not as quick to replenish dishes that are empty. All in all, this hotel is still worth booking and by far the best in Bochum.

The staff were friendly, competent and obliging and our room was comfortable and quiet. We didn't eat at the hotel restaurant and so can't comment about that. However, the bar is very elegant and they were happy to provide a glass of milk for the children! The hotel is well situated for transit to various destinations via the Metro and adjacent to the lovely Grugapark. There are a number of great places to eat within easy walking distance. We wanted a relaxing base where we could catch up with family who live in Germany, and the Atlantic Congress didn't disappoint. We would definitely stay there again.

Nice ambience in the bar. Big bonus, if you hang the 'do not clean' sign outside the door you get a free drink voucher to use in the bar - excellent idea.

I had a fantastic experience at NH Essen City. The location is unbeatable – right in the city center, with shops, restaurants, and public transport just a few steps away. The room was modern, clean, and very quiet, with a comfortable bed and great amenities. The breakfast buffet had a wide variety and everything was fresh and delicious. Staff were friendly and professional throughout my stay. I especially appreciated the smooth check-in and check-out process. I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to anyone visiting Essen!

Overall, a good business hotel. Rooms were clean fresh, large bathroom in superior rooms with dual sinks. Coffee machine and fridge. Bed was comfortable, window opened fully and curtains blacked out the light nicely. Needed more light though, small bedside lights only and pointless ‘hue’ lighting. Don’t bother with skipping room service for a free drink - they don’t come in at all which means NO room service to top up coffee etc unless this doesn’t bother you. Room service should not have to include refreshing towels each day. Breakfast was generally good though the pastries were vile and stodgy, all else fine and hot food to order. No restaurant. Staff seemed generally friendly and helpful but barman seemed a bit grumpy when asked for cocktails and to pay in cash rather than charged to the room. Car parking limited on site but parking over the road which is a shock with many homeless people and dodgy looking sorts ( shared area with bus station/ tram) but there is 24 hour security and we had and saw no issues over three days ( at 17€ per day) with many very expensive cars parked overnight there.

Nice, new hotel with comfortable rooms and helpful staff. At less than 100 euros a night, really, really good for the price. Rooms were very clean and my week-long experience was really quiet. Staff also helpful and a bar to grab a drink at night.

Good location for the Messe Essen exhibition centre. we walked it in 15 minutes but it is a short walk from a metro station and then two stops. Took us about an hour to get to and from Dusseldorf airport by train. A selection of restaurants and bars also nearby. Staff could not have been more helpful. Good breakfast as well and they allowed us to leave our bags there for most of the day after we checked out. Hotel gave us a city-wise travel pass which covered all buses, trams and trains, even as far as the airport on our way back..

The location was good, 10 minutes by foot from the train station, directly at Bermuda3Eck and therefore directly in the inner city with lots of shops and resturants nearby. The room was comfortable, very clean and nicely furnitured. Breakfast could be taken in the restaurant below for max. 19.90€ per person and was plenty and very delicious. The staff in the restaurant was amazingly friendly.

Rooms are clean, with a beautiful wooden floor. It is one of the few hotels in Bochum with rooms with a wooden floor instead of a carpet. There was a misunderstanding when I checked in, but it was fixed the next day. The room was beautiful, and decorated with good taste. Bathroom is very modern. The hotel is ideally located, in the center, surrounded by restaurants and bars, and within a 10 min walking distance from the railway station. Breakfast is "à la carte", and is good. I appreciated the staff and the waitress who served me at breakfast.

Staff were really friendly and helpful. Nice bar and restaurant. Room was spotless. Toiletries provided - and a little bag of Haribo and water. Good location - near public transport. Easy to find.

I booked this hotel on a random trip to Bochum. The hotel is at the centre of all the tapas bars so it is great if you want to enjoy the night life. The hospitality is top noch and despite the fact that I couldn’t speak a word in German the staff were happy to speak in English (I promise I will learn the basics before the next trip). The room is unique and spacious and the double glazing helps with dampening the noise from the bars (not that it mattered to me). All in all I highly recommend this hotel for its location, friendly staff and reasonable pricing.

Review I had the pleasure of staying at Holiday Inn Oberhausen in [09.08.2025], and my experience was excellent from start to finish. Location The hotel is conveniently located close to the city center and shopping areas, with easy access both by public transportation and car. Room and Cleanliness My room was spacious, bright, and modernly decorated. The bed was extremely comfortable, and the cleanliness was impeccable. Daily housekeeping was carried out with great care. Staff and Service From the reception to housekeeping, all staff members were friendly, helpful, and solution-oriented. The check-in and check-out processes were smooth and efficient. Overall Holiday Inn Oberhausen is a hotel I can wholeheartedly recommend for both business and leisure stays. I truly felt at home during my visit, and I would definitely choose it again on my next trip to Oberhausen.

The friendly atmosphere and interaction with the staff was a welcome surprise and greatly appreciated, the buffet style breakfast was 1st class, everything from the ease of use to the excellent selection available, a well presented hotel from front of house, the rooms and the breakfast area, definitely a recommend to friends and family

Hotel was exceptionally clean and very friendly staff. It was very close to Rudolph-Weber arena and Westfield centre (within walking distance, about 5 minutes max). Breakfast was very good too, the pancakes were amazing!

Perfect location for a weekend of shopping (Westfield mall is just across the street with free parking) and visiting Moviepark Germany (20 min). Breakfast always included and large choice. Staff helpful and very friendly .

Has a car park at the back and a lift which is helpful. Really nice buffet breakfast. A nice selection, well presented, it had something for everyone and great coffee machine and very cheap all for €8! Room has pretty much everything you need, very comfortable bed and pillows and it was clean. Rooms are a good size, lighter duvet and extra pillows provided. Nice power for the shower, and a heated towel rack. Nice big windows to open and also temperature control on the wall.

Breakfast was lovely with a wide range of options and choices. Room was spacious, away from the noise with available aircon and lovely views of the grounds. Food in the dining room was good but the lunch time menu was limited and be a more cost effective price. Staff were professional and helpful. Grounds were amazing and of course having the lovely sunny weather made a great difference.

I was actually blown away with how great this hotel was! In the Uk, most Best Westerns are very basic and don’t have much but this was a very good hotel. The lobby was well presented and very smart, the restaurant area was also nice. The room was very good, the chair was comfy, I liked that the room had a tablet too. Modern hotel in Essen, comfortable bed and bathroom, breakfast quite good, central area in Essen. a few negative points: no gym, no desk or chair to work on in the room, only one person at reception so some queues at times for check-in and -out, no fridge or minibar in room, no housekeeping for first three days. generally nice though.

Clean and good looking hotel, good breakfast. Slow check in and bar, seems understaffed at night. Plus for rewarding customers for eco friendlyness when not wanting to change towels and clean rooms every day, but a minus for staff taking a large stack of napkins for wiping water off the floor, instead of a rag.

The rooms are cleaned and air-conditioning is very cool, very comfortable for warm days staying. Yet they don't have family, we got two connected rooms which is very nice for family with children.

We stayed here for a concert in Rudolf Weber Arena, so best location for that. The room has almost everything you need. Very spacious room. Superb breakfast. Comfy bed. Air con. Complimentary water

I was travelling for business, and this lovely little B&B-style place was conveniently located. All I really needed was a comfortable bed and a clean bathroom, so I'm not fussy - but the desk and spacious room made it easy to get extra work done after hours. The hotel is clean, comfortable and with large rooms for a European hotel (though the shower was tiny!). Breakfast was typical German fare - cheese, ham and fruit - and while there's no restaurant on site, a long road full of great offerings is just 5 minutes' walk. (Staff can even provide a map to local bars and restaurants.) There were just a few niggles for me: I was on the top floor and no lift is available (my lack of fitness showed); there was a rip in the bed head; and the shower head had a leak. Hardly enough to mark the place down, as everyone was friendly and I had a comfortable stay.

Reasonably priced (<80 euro per night) hotel which does well on all the basics. The internet was the only thing not optimal. Reception in room 21 was weak and intermittent on my cell phone wifi, sort of a problem since my Verizon international roaming data plan was not working well. Very nice breakfast overall with institution style scrambled eggs, hard boiled eggs, soggy bacon, decent sausage, extensive cold meats and cheeses, good selection of fruits and breads. Good coffee brewed and other coffee drinks via machine. Good selection of teas. Small but comfortable bed, clean new above average bath/shower.

Really nice hotel, better than average for business trip. Rooms large and comfortable, staff very helpful. Breakfast very good with plenty of choice. Wifi was free but signal not great. Parking easy although chargeable. Hotel has no bar or restaurant but this did not matter as there is a street a couple of minutes walk away with a choice of cuisine types. Overall a good stay and will use again next year.

Very nice hotel, central to the Messe and Ruttenschied which in Essen is very important. It was clean, comfortable with a friendly and helpful staff. Parking can be challenging in the area, but the hotel has its own parking as well. This is the first time I have stayed but will be looking to it as my first choice from now on as I need to visit the city.

Small hotel near congress center, good restaurants nearby. I was upgraded on arrival to a business room. Larger than most euro rooms. Entrance from the garden and coffee machine to help with jetlag. Breakfast was good and staff were friendly. Grugapark is worth a visit.

We stayed three nights whilst visiting the Movie Park and used the restaurant once which was very good. Breakfast was OK. Approach a stay here with the mindset, ‘you get what you pay for’. Even though the hotel might appear old, our room was absolutely fresh, and everything in the hotel was very clean and well maintained, which gives a great vintage experience, compared to faceless chain hotels, often lacking quality control. Breakfast is absolutely great, especially given that on weekend and holidays it's served till 12:00. Stuff was welcoming and helpful.

The hotel was very local to the veltin stadium. The tram station was just outside the hotel and you could get the 302 tram right to the stadium. On a match day if you had a ticket the journey was free. The hotel room was very clean and had a nice powerful shower. Shower gel was provided but no other toiletries or shower cap. The beds were comfortable but the pillows were very strange as they were a bit like small duvets and very very soft but all in all we were satisfied. one disappointment was that the bistro and bar were being refurbished so we had to go into town for a drink and food. We never bothered with the breakfast so cannot comment on the quality. I would recommend this hotel for staying in gelsenkirchen.

Very friendly staff and a very clean and comfortable environment. Fabulous at providing gluten free bread on advance request and in permitting child to have breakfast despite 'no show' during breakfast hours.

The staff was very lovely, friendly always said hello or good morning. All very approachable. I liked the location, I was going to concerts at Veltins Arena, it’s a 45 minute walk there which is convenient because after the concert the trams where full. If you do want to use the trams the stops are 2 minutes from the front door. The room was very clean and modern.

This is a nice hotel situated in the center of the town, you are about hundred meters from a metro station, this metro station is only one step away from Central Station in Essen. Rooms are good size, equipped with chair, TV, and a small fridge. Save is also available. Bathroom is good size and clean. On my first night it was smelling, but they smell disappeared on the second night. Bed is a good size, the pillow is really bad. Bedsheets were clean. There is breakfast available for extra charge in this hotel. The biggest problem is that free Wi-Fi. Half of the time it is not available, or it breaks. I reported it to the reception, however, the reception claimed that the Wi-Fi works. Well, it doesn’t. Suitable for short stay, especially if you have business to do in Europe center.

Beim Ankommen bekommt man ein Glas Wasser im Zimmer noch. Minibar und Wasserkoch sind auch verfügbar. Während des Aufenthaltes habe ich um eine extra Decke gebeten. Die habe ich auch sehr schnell bekommen. Jeden Tag wurde das Badezimmer gereinigt, obwohl ich das nicht verlangt habe. Ich bin sehr zufrieden mit dem Aufenthalt und komme gerne nochmal zum Besuch.

Mir hat es sehr gut gefallen. Besonders gut fand ich die Aspekte Zimmereinrichtung, Sauberkeit, Komfort, Frühstück, kein Lärm. Gefehlt haben mir z.B. eine Liste empfehlenswerter Restaurants in der Nähe und Ortskenntnisse des Personals in Bezug auf Essen.

I stayed here to attend a concert at Veltins Arena. The hotel allowed me to have my ticket sent to them rather than to Australia, which saved me EU30. They held the ticket safely for 8 months. Service from the desk staff was excellent - very friendly, and showing great patience with my basic German (although they spoke good English). The hotel itself was really nice, well-furnished and attractive. Toilets and showers (at one end of each floor) were very clean and quite spacious. I never encountered a queue. My single room was comfortable and contained a basin, desk and chair. It was on the second floor (no elevator). Breakfast couldn't be faulted - a smorgasbord with a huge selection, again with excellent service. The location was awesome. An easy trip on tram 302, then a 10 minute walk to the hotel. It's easy to find, but the entrance is at the back, not facing the street. It's then a 10 minute walk to Veltins Arena (longer to get back when everyone leaves at the same time), but by the time I got back to my room and was ready for bed, a look out the window at the huge traffic jam made me feel quite smug.

We stayed for 4 nights B&B to watch the Match v Mainz. Take Tram 302 towards Gelsenkirchen Buer and the Hotel stop is 12-15 mins out of town. The stop you need is Willy Brandt Allee. Cross at the lights and the Hotel is 500 metres down on the right hand side. There is a decent Mongolian Buffet in the Hotel and a Cinema and restaurant across the road but frankly there seemed to be very little going on in the area when there is not a match on (but come match day 61000+ appear from nowhere and the hotel gets busy). Gelsenkirchen Buer 3 stops further on tram (past Arena) has a lot more restaurants and pubs than Gelsenkirchen itself where we found only 1 pub). If travelling around on the railway/trams I suggest you look into Landerer tickets which allow 2-5 people to travel around the North Westphalia area for the day to places like Cologne, Leverkausen or Dusseldorf for around 40 Euros. You can get similar group tickets for more local places like Dortmond (18euros for 2 people) so it all makes sense to buy ahead. As a return to the Gelsenkirchen HBF on the tram is 5 euros per person. As for Hotel it's good for Stadium, has big rooms very friendly staff and decent breakfast, if you are not going to the match I can't imagine why you would want to stay here though !

Single room with shared bathroom for £28 per night, including continental buffet breakfast. Excellent value for money. If all you want is somewhere to to lay your head for a night and quality/facilities aren't important, then this place should be top of your list. Booked for a visit to the Schalke 04 Arena (10 minutes walk away), I was looking for something cheap and cheerful. This is definitely a cheap place to stay but isn't, as one might imagine, a real dive. The single rooms are small but still come with a desk, TV and sink, so sharing a bathroom isn't such an issue. The reception staff are friendly and the hotel looked very clean. I've paid more for worse. On site, there is a chinese restaurant and next door, Burger King, so it's not as if you have to go miles for something to eat. There's a McDonalds just around the corner too. If your reason for being in this area is football, then the hotel is ideally situated for the Schalke Arena. There are other hotels in the area but none, this cheap for B&B, this close. I'd definitely stay there again.

The closeness to the Arena is great and it was very easy to get to. The property was clean and staff very friendly! Myself and my friend booked single rooms without bathrooms (only available ones for the night we stayed) and I was a bit worried about the shared bathrooms but the set-up was great (3 shared clean and spacious bathrooms on our floor). This property is perfect if you are going to the Arena for an event!

I stayed here for two nights when unusual heat wave struck Northern Germany. The hotel looked old and our room was very basic but very clean. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly, and one of them spoke good English. Breakfast was also reasonably-priced with good selections of cold meals (and some cooked dishes). The hotel provides free car park. There is a large supermarket, walking for less than 10min from the hotel. If you need to know how to get to the hotel from Gelsenkirchen train station, simply email them. They will reply to you with good instruction. I wanted to give them 5 out of 5, but due to the heat wave and no air conditioning nor fans in the room (they had only 9 fans for guests, and all of them were gone when we checked in), I could not sleep almost at all in the first night. The room temperature at midnight was over 30C with no fan. I do know that the heat was not their fault and was unusual for the area. But at the end, I could not fall sleep due to the heat. I wished I could have a fan at least.

Great Hotel! We visited the Pompeji exhibit and wanted to stay in a hotel from which we could walk there. It was perfect! The bed was big enough to sleep in together with my child. The room had a mini fridge for our milk and sweet beverages. It was very quiet, and the bathroom was excellent for families with small kids, with a tub. The breakfast was amazing with a huge choice, seaweed salad for mom and chocolate chips and marshmallows for kiddo as an extra treat. We visited Legoland and Sea Life on the second day, and it was just a short drive. In short, excellent location, service, and amenities. We will come back!

The hotel is a few minutes from the town hall and one metro stop from the central train station. The city zone with restaurants and bars is only ~500 m away. The room was spotless and comfortable, and the staff was hospitable and friendly. I enjoyed the breakfast very much.

The hotel's location is good in relation to the city centre, with only a five to ten minute walk to the shops, bars and restaurants and train station should you choose to visit other nearby cities. I must commend the staff who worked in the Hotel Ostmeier who were very friendly and very helpful. The room I stayed in was very clean, tidy, and attended to every day by cleaning staff. There is pretty much what you need in the room for a short stay. There is a good choice of food for breakfast, in a nice relaxed dining area, and you were not rushed to finish. In short, the Hotel Ostmeier is a nice traditional hotel with great staff that is certainly worth considering if you're looking to stay in Bochum.

Good location on the Westring, staff was super friendly. The room was on the smaller side and the interior looks a bit dated, but everything was working, clean and comfortable, so no complaints there. Breakfast was good and if you have a travel mug, you can always get a coffee to take away with you for the day. They don't have a 24h reception but you'll get a key so you really can come and go as you please. I for sure would stay here again.

Plenty too eat, just not the breakfast I got on Day 2. However, I was not charged for the first breakfast.

We enjoyed our 5 night stay at Hugenpoet. Kids particularly loved the gardens. There is a small outdoor play area too, which the 7 year old loved very much. Our room was spacious and quiet. We all got good sleep here. Our room overlooked the gardens and we truly enjoyed this beautiful view. The staff were helpful and friendly, although I don't think they know the area too well. But they definitely tried to come up with ideas for excursions. Now I can see why some people question whether this is a 5 star hotel. Because, you really can't compare a Grand Hyatt to Hugenpoet. This is a boutique property, not a high volume hotel. We found the breakfast sufficient, but yes, with slow service. We weren't offered anything, and before I came downstairs to breakfast on our first dy, my non German speaking husband and children though there were no hot drinks on offer, no eggs. You need to order these yourself. On day 3 I asked if the kitchen could make pancakes or waffles for the kids to which I got a yes to the pancakes - but only because I asked. I wonder what else is on the menu that we never knew about - why not print out a menu and leave it on the tables or something? But we loved the atmosphere and the remoteness of the hotel, and we would return for sure.

It is a beautiful castle hotel. The rooms are little outdated specially the bathrooms they need a facelift! Bar restaurant area is pretty dark and should be lighter in my opinion. The drinks and foods are tasty . Price level pretty high. The garden super nice and the terrace has a nice view on the garden. Nice Spot ! .

We really had a great weekend at the castle! Having read reviews, we were expecting some noise from planes - but there was absolutely no noise heard in our room👍🏻 Room was beautiful, we had tasty dinner at restaurant 1831. Breakfast was amazing, one of the best we had in hotels. Definitely want to come back!

Great historical building in nice settings. We had the opportunity to enjoy a very nice breakfast served at the table at the terrasse looking out in the garden which was amazing. I had a very pleasant time at this hotel. I was on my to Poland from the UK and chose this hotel to spend one night as a break from the journey... The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. They even offered to make me tea ( I had a thermal flask - they topped it up for me) and gave me a bottle of water for me to take on the journey... and the breakfast was superb...The rooms are lovely and clean and the air conditioning is really quiet, so I had a fantastic night's sleep. Really recommend.

I stayed for one night, and booked a single room, which was spacious, and although simple, tastefully designed in earthy notes (lacking consistency though), ergonomic and comfortable; while the bathroom was more old-fashioned, but equally nice. The restaurant-bar and the lounge area were airy and slick and pleasant to hang around. Breakfast was fresh and nicely presented, but quite standard -no surprises here. But most important, the service has been impeccable in all aspects, with the personnel always being ready to assist. Overall, a smooth stay and an option I would reconsider, when back in town.

The rooms where large for a family of four and very quite. The beds were comfortable and the hotel parking (10euros) was reasonable. The staff was very friendly especially the young lady at the bar who did everything to accomodate our dinner requests (since the hotel Restaurant was closed on Sunday and also because it was August).

We appreciated the friendly, English-speaking staff. The room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was delicious! We would stay there again.

Over all good, the reception is friendly, the place is clean and offers what you expect. The bed might be a bit to hard for me, but that is a personal thing. The wifi needs an Update, 2024 and just scraping by on two bars is not acceptable. Breakfeast was good, but at 20€ pr day it is in the heavy end. Did not eat dinner at the hotel.

The hotel is very modern and has spacious rooms. Wifi works very good. It's located in Essen, so if you are planning meetings in Dusseldorf, it will take you around 30 to 40 minutes by car to get to Dusseldorf (depending on the traffic). Parking is right in the hotel or at night you can park outside, there are plenty of places and for free. It has a very good restaurant inside, however, there is a supermarket about 10 minutes walk, and a shopping mall, cinema around 10-15 minutes by car.

A short walk from Essen train station, the hotel is reasonable for the price. The reception staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was a good size, with good heating and air-conditioning unit, a kettle with tea and coffee, a complimentary bottle of water. My room overlooked the car park at the back of the hotel so it was nice and peaceful, facing away from the busy road. The room wasn't spotless, but it was clean enough. There were dirty water marks on the wall and the radiator in the bathroom. The mug also had dried spots of coffee from the previous person, so I had to clean this myself before using it.

Shower was brilliant and very powerful and temperature remained constant. The staff were exremely helpful and friendly. They went out of their way to help and nothing was too much trouble for them. Only a short walk to town. Very clean and comfortable. Loved the Beatles theme and the cushions in the room. Plenty of tables for breakfast. Will definately stay here again next time in Essen.

Located close to the railway station and city centre in a rather busy street, but the rooms are quiet. Nice room, very clean. Comfortable bed. The Art Hotel is a quirky establishment located quite close to the Hauptbahnhof but no so close that the train noise is a distraction. It is a great 3 star establishment, with friendly staff. The rooms are uniquely decorated by an aspiring artist, with good sizes, very clean and good amenities (and one or two choices on the "minibar" that you definitely don't see everywhere!). The beds were comfortable and the rooms warm on a chilly evening. The internet speed is good and stable, and the breakfast is fine. The facade is quite "office" looking, but don't let that put you off - this is one of the best three stars in Essen.

Hotel: If you see the outside of the building it's nothing strange or different from other hotels. But when you come inside it's a whole different feeling and has its own unique mood. I kind of liked it, if it was only for the fact than that it was totally different from all the standard hotels. Price: Price is fair considering the room and the free breakfast. Room: The room was nice and you get quite a lot complimentary like the water, cappuccino and a wide assort of tea. It does feel strange that you can buy "ahum" different sort of entertainment (see foto's of other guests). bathroom: Nothing special, not good, not bad. Services: Friendly staff and they charged me less than the real price because of a date change from my end. Nothing to complain! The WIFI was bad and slow unf. I wonder why so many hotels still struggle with this anno 2016. Food: The breakfast was a bit small but was fresh and good enough. neighborhood: Close to the center and the offices it's ideally situated for both business and leisure. Overall: If you want something different than the standard rooms, with the standard carpet and the standard beds, try this for a change. When i was used to it i kind of liked it. The bed was a bit hard to be honest but i had a good night sleep.

Excellent WiFi signal, good central heating, working lift, great location; it is only 3 minutes walk to the nearest U Bahn and tram which take you everywhere, very close to many supermarkets, restaurants and shops. Very friendly reception staff. Special thanks to Mr Ebrahimi who kindly allowed me to have a free of charge early check in. Very rich breakfast, a lot of variety even for vegans, the restaurant staff are so friendly and making sure to constantly restock the open buffet table. Would definitely consider it if I visit Essen again :)

I have been staying at this hotel for my holidays for about five years, and it always feels great. Mariam at the reception is very welcoming, professional, and truly kind. The hotel is always clean, with daily fresh sheets, shampoo, and shower gel provided. The rooms are very comfortable, with a small fridge, a chair and a desk with plenty of lighting, and a safe. Breakfast is fresh, varied, and similar to a 4-star hotel. The location is, in my opinion (and even according to Google), the best area in the city. Around the hotel you can find restaurants, bars, cafés, a pharmacy, clinics, an off-license shop, and the metro station is less than 5 minutes’ walk. I highly recommend it.

Hotel is off the Main Streets so there is no traffic and it’s quiet- even the rooms facing the street. Good location- half way between central Stn and the Messe- 15 minute walk from either one. Breakfast is OK, no lunch or dinner but it is one block from lots of cafes and restaurants. Clean and pleasant. Excellent value. I will stay there again

In the restaurant Wolperding directly opposite you can get a couple of drinks and food until midnight, on weekends even until 2am. The historic Zollverein site is 5 minutes of drive.

The Biergarten in front of the hotel is very nice but pretty low quality food. I recommend this place for 1 or 2 nights. You can easily acces bike trails that are very well maintained a couple of minutes away from the hotel

Rooms are big and clean. The staff was friendly and very helpful. There is free parking . We had the option to use sauna but did had much time. Morning Breakfast was good. Hotel is very close ( walkable) to a big shopping mall so you have options to eat outside the hotel restaurant.

Super comfortable beds, nice staff, close to spa. Breakfast was great, too. Only downside was that they ran out of some breakfast items an hour before breakfast was supposed to end. Long lines for coffee machine. Nice tea selection. Would definitely stay again.

it is really near the main train station, i always easily could catch the train. it is also relatively close to the city center, so if you need supermarkets, it’s just 6-8 minutes walk away. i booked a room with separate shower and it was very easy and comfortable to use, much better as i thought! it was very clean and tidy, the coworkers are very friendly. i asked for the hair dryer and got it for the whole time i stayed. it’s also pretty safe, cause you can enter the hotel building only with the key. and it was quiet, i really didn’t hear anything from my neighbours or from the street

Nice size single room. I love the place! I really enjoy the room (I choose outside shower) for 3 night. It was very good for tidy up own things and myself as well. I prefer to be relax alone than luxe. I needed to stay the place just fit my own size. If you have similar favorite or purpose, I recommend here. Calm location, near various public transport stations. Reception staff’s kindness. good quarity of hot water temperature control. Especially my favorite properties : - shelves and long nallow table along the wall. It was really helpful for organize my things. - the lights. toilet,too. Usually at other places, I couldn’t see well the washbasin’s mirror for my height, for too bright LED lights. It was really comfortable!! Andefu Hotel am Kantpark has perfect single room for me!

Very kind and very helpful personnel. Also, very clean. Perfect position for exploring the Ruhr area since it is close to the train station and yet in a quiet part of the city centre. Rooms are basic.

On arrival we were met by the lady at the font desk who was very friendly and welcoming. As we had arrived somewhat early they offered to keep our belongings aside while we explored the town center nearby. When we returned to our room later we found it to be well equiped, clean and spacious. We only stayed one night but had no issues whatsover and slept well. The location is right on the edge of the main city center which was very convenient given our trip was to visit the markets. For an additional 10 euro pp there is also the option of a breakfast buffet which we found to be fantastic. Overall really good value for money given the location and time of year. Thanks for having us!

I really enjoyed the room - the size was fine for 2 nights, and what's most important - a really comfortable bed! I don't know what breakfast was like, since I didn't take any. Staff was nice and helpful. It is also rather close to the train station (about 10 min on foot) or city center.

The staff are always friendly, helpful, and ready to assist whenever needed. As a bonus, the sauna and the beautiful garden create a truly relaxing atmosphere. The free private parking is also a great advantage. Highly recommended!

The staff were very helpful. On arrival were able to move our daughters to room next to us. A member of staff went out after work and got gluten free bread for my wife for breakfast. Our rooms were upgraded and you booking.com quoted rate as without breakfast but they included it within price. ? If just for us.

The room was comfortable, the staff were friendly, and it was in a perfect location for me to explore Oberhausen and still make it to my concert at the nearby Turbinenhalle in only 5-10 minutes. The bed was also very comfortable and I enjoyed sleeping in on my vacation.

Located about 4-5 kilometers from the train station and it is very walkable and easy to find. The owners/staff are incredibly attentive and caring. The room is very clean, comfortable and quiet. Don’t skip out on the breakfast. It’s fresh and delicious, filled with bread, meats and cheeses.

Regarding the location: it’s next to a highway which makes it an ideal stop en-route. We used the hotel to visit to visit some touristic attractions in the area. That works out well if you have a car.

We’re travelling with a group of choir children. The fact that Under 18 stays for free made this 4 star hotel cheaper than a Youth Hostel! The lady serving us in the breakfast hall, was very friendly and helpful!

The most uncomplicated check-in (and check-out) ever! Friendly guy in the reception, clean and fresh. The location, very close to the railway station, is, of course, optimal if you, like we did, find yourself stranded due to cancelled trains. The breakfast was fine as well.

The hotel and room were spotlessly clean and the staff were welcoming,helpful and friendly. It is an ideal location for events at the Veltins Arena. The Olive Restaurant had a good menu and the service was excellent. My one reason for not giving the hotel an overall rating of five was that the Bar Food menu was not available on the days when an event was taking place at the arena which I feel is not really acceptable and was not part of the information either on the website on when we checked in.

We had this hotel as a stop-over on the way, driving on vacations. It was so good, that we stopped there on the way back too. With 2 adults and 4 kids, we were giving the adjoining rooms, so that was very convenient for us. The hotel is new, nice rooms and exceptional service. We used the restaurant for Breakfast, it was good. We did dinner there one night as well, excellent. Can highly recommend for family and business alike.

There was plenty of parking. The hotel staff were very friendly and spoke excellent English. The room was very comfortable and clean. The breakfast buffet was outstanding. An added bonus was that the hotel turned out to be a 5-minute walk from the nearest tram stop, so I was able to leave my car at the hotel and not try to worry about finding parking downtown.

Generally a clean place and kept tidy. Friendly host, but the parking is a bit misleading from the Hotels page. There is no "official" parking there, you simply squeeze on to the patio area in front of the hotel as best as possible, but then even that's restricted as I got told twice nt to put it in specific bits. But for a building that has 30+ rooms, there's probably parking for about 4 cars at most. Lucky for me very few were staying, but you don't know whether your car is legal or not from day to day. Multiple ways to travel to Essen from there, but all taking about 20 minutes, a big longer than anticipated, mainly because Germany has a million traffic lights that aren't sensor activated so you can be waiting ages at a junction with NOTHING going past. Breakfast was tasty but not a huge selection, but enough to fill you up. No kettle in room but I think that's common in Europe, probably spoiled having it as default in UK so bring a travel kettle and some tea bags. Desk very small so you won't be working on it, but comfy bed and daily service for clean towels. Shower head was a bit loose though, sometimes it would just spin or slide down, needs some securing for sure and even the sink tap was pretty stiff. Did the job for a solo stay, but I might move slightly closer to Essen for next year.

I was very satisfied with everything, I really enjoyed my stay! Andreas was super nice and friendly and most importantly, he went beyond to help with my questions/enquiries. The lady at the breakfast was nice too! The room was very clean and spacious with comfortable beds. I will definitely be back and I can only recommend this hotel!

We got a suprise upgrade from room (3p) to a whole appartment! So much space, comfortable furniture, balcony. The staff was super friendly, helpful, and with humor! Amazing! Great location as well, you walk to the centre in a few minutes. Also there are cosy local bars in the street and a brewery (typical german beer drinking place) nearby. All you need for a great weekend!

We stayed only for one night with our two kids. The room was clean and for one night enough, however if we would need to stay for more nights then I think it was a bit too small. Children really enjoyed the swimming pool and we enjoyed the sauna. This was the main reason why we booked this hotel in the first place. The terrace was also an extra bonus and it was located on our level, which we really appreciate it. The buffet breakfast had everything our family needed and coffee was delicious. The only thing that I didn't like were the carpets on the corridors. It ruined the entire look of the hotel in my opinion. Very outdated and I think they need to be changed. Also we weren't informed at the time of booking that the only parking for guests is a paid car park. The staff was very friendly, so overall we are safisfied with our stay.

This is a really classically styled traditional hotel. It’s really clean, and they clearly keep well on top of maintenance here. The room was quiet and peaceful, the bed was comfortable and I got a great nights sleep. The staff were brilliantly kind. I had asked in advance to store a bicycle, and this was remembered when I checked in and it was well accommodated. The breakfast was lovely, with a good selection which I enjoyed. It’s really hard to find a fault here - it was great.

We stayed for a week. The room we got was very spacious and very clean. The bed was very comfortable. This is a family run hotel with a very good restaurant providing local cuisine. The continental breakfast is very good, we especially enjoyed bread and Broetchen as well croissants.

Super clean and modern place. Staff was extremely friendly, and they provided a good breakfast. They have an immense amount of parking out back which is most often a rarity with many of the hotels in Europe. Was one of our best stays while in Europe and would most definitely stay here again.

The corner room was a nice size with a sitting area an air conditioning. (Some friends staying in the same town did not have it so we were grateful for it). The decor is slightly dated, by very well maintained and extremely clean. We also had a really nice TV set-though we didn't watch it. What really stood out for me were the breakfasts. Many of the items were homemade. The yogurt is a must. Elvira also asked if she could make eggs to order and she made the most delicious eggs fried on top of bacon. Superb! The breakfast room has a beautiful garden area to look out at. There is also an outdoor sitting area in the front of the hotel as well. It is a couple of blocks off of the main shopping area, but that meant that the hotel was situated on a quiet street. (Our friends at the other hotel without air conditioning overlooked a bar and they found the room to be noisy with the windows open at night). If I am ever back in the area I would definitely stay here again.

What a lovely, comfortable, friendly hotel. From the moment we arrived we got such a warm welcome. The owner is incredibly friendly and went out of her way to help us with advice on things to see in the area and on using the trams and trains. The breakfast was absolutely delicious, including scrambled eggs with bacon for my husband and homemade cake for me. Rooms are lovely with a nice desk and easy access to wifi and the hotel is located on a nice quiet street a short walk from restaurants and shops. Highly recommended.

Very clean and spacious room. I stayed just for one night. There are few, good restaurants spprox 8 min walk from the hotel. Nice bakery just few min away, good for a breakfast. Safe location. Very peaceful.

This family Hotel was great, the room was clean with a beautiful fireplace and a lot of space. Breakfast was delicious and the owners are very friendly. Hotel is in walking distance to the public transport and a lot of restaurants. No negative points and absolutely nothing to complain. We will come back for sure.

From the friendly welcome to the checking out, I was made to feel at ease. The door card system is easy to use and the rooms are spacious. The hotel is very clean throughout and the breakfast is always fresh and good quality. The hotel does have assigned parking which makes it easy to park close to the by. Everything from the welcoming, helpful staff, the comfort of the bed and room, the breakfast spread and coffee as well as the selection of delicious food in the restaurant to the location of this hotel in the peaceful setting of a beautiful park and garden was absolutely perfect.

It's a very beautiful place with friendly staff. The hotel looks amazing and very clean. The staff is very friendly. The biggest plus that we didn't have to wait to check in. We were allowed to check in immediately. The parking is free and available. The interior is very beautiful and each room has a balcony. Especially convenient for smokers.

We ate a delicious meal in the restaurant upon arrival and then took a walk in the lovely park near the hotel. After a restful night of sleep in the comfortable beds we ate another good meal, breakfast this time, before checking out. All members of staff were ftiendly and helpful.

Usual excellent standards you expect with a Van der Valk. The room was large and appeared to have been refurbished in the past few years, great big comfy bed. Tea & coffee making facilities, and patio doors leading to patio area with chairs. When checking in the guy didn’t speak much English & we didn’t speak much German, but he was perfectly helpful and friendly. Will definitely stay again when in the area.

It's an old building and it shows but the rooms were nicely decorated and charming. We will certainly book again on our next trip to Essen.

Restaurant behind the hotel was great too, lovely lunch there. With not much around, but a small village close by, it was goo access for a lunchtime.

Perfect place to stay if you are attending an event at Veltins Arena. The lovely young lady at the front desk even gave a small group of us a ride to the venue. And she was so pleasant and friendly. We even walked back to the hotel after the concert and it was a nice, safe trip. Breakfast in the morning was excellent. This property delivered exactly what we were looking for.

We stopped at Vitalonge hotel while transiting through Germany – the hotel is just a few minutes off the Authbahn, making it perfect for a stop-over. I was very positively surprised by the size of the room and overall quality. Very friendly staff, quiet place.
